I have finally gotten around to creating a thread just for Hotwax stuff. I'll be reposting most of the Hotwax stuff I posted in the Meiko Kaji and Pinky Violence threads.

Hotwax is devoted to, in their words, "Japanese Movies, Rock & Pops" of the 1960s/1970s. They release magazines, books, CDs, and recently released their first DVD. All Hotwax items are in Japanese only.

My guess was correct. On October 7, Hotwax will release the 8th CD in their Hotwax Trax series. It will be devoted to Nikkatsu's "roman porno" films. The catalog number is CDSOL-1146.

Amazon Japan, HMV Japan, and Tower Records Japan all ship outside of Japan. YesAsia also has some of the Hotwax stuff but the prices aren't that great ($25 USD for Hotwax Volume 5 ?!). Amazon U.S. has the "Hotwax Presents" CDs but that's it.

The only Hotwax item that is probably out of print is the CD+DVD edition of The Spiders Movie Tracks because it was limited to 1000 copies.

Miki Sugimoto Vs Reiko Ike (CD) - Another CD devoted to Toei's Pinky Violence films. This one will include Miki's 7 inch single Onna no Tsumeato which contains her theme song from Zero Woman: Red Handcuffs! First time on CD! This 7 inch single was originally released by CBS/Sony. Hotwax's Queen Of Japanese Movie: From Straycat Rock To Girl Boss Blues book finally came out this week. The text is in Japanese and English. The book includes film credits, synopsis, biographies, and lots of photos (stills and poster art). I will post a more detailed look at the book a little later. This is the first Hotwax publication to include an English translation.

Thanks...any info would be greatly appreciated. I just finished watching Streetfighter's Last Revenge which made me want that music as well! Are there good sites to track down or look at soundtrack availability? Whenever I watch a Japanese film from the 70's more often than not I love the music and wish I could own it.

Also watching the great Reiko Ike in the above film made me think about what she and Kaji Meiko and Sugimoto Miki were up to now and what they looked like. That has been the disappointing piece of the releases of their films. Unlike Noshame where we get to see Edwige Fenech and how beautiful she still looks. Are there any DVD's out there with current interviews with these lovely ladies?

Personally I'd really kill for the OSTs from Sonny Chiba's 70's movies, like the Oyama-trilogy, Streetfighter-trilogy, Killing Machine, etc...

The Sukeban cd I didn't care for that much (technically a very nice release though) but the Miki vs Reiko cd was a blast.

It looks like the biggest draw for these books are the enclosed "extras" (CD, poster). Are the books mainly in B&W or are there also color photos? Do the books include background information on the stars as well as production notes?

there chocka with information. making a definitive good / bad statement's too hard. lots of picks, lots of text, some are small, some are big. i don't read japanese. also recommended : that 'pinky violence' book that's out there.

on the subject of hotwax, since amazon.co.jp don't do a cheap shipping option anymore, and since hmv.co.jp want 1500 yen per order (and two CDs is over the £18 duty limit in the UK) can anyone suggest japanese sites stocking these CDs which offer reasonable postage? cdjapan don't have most of them - two that i want, 'sukeban guerilla' and 'world of nikkatsu roman porno' can't be sourced by yesasia either, but they do have one or two others from the same range (!)...

The CD contains the contains score and theme songs for 8 Miki Sugimoto films.

*The previously unreleased tracks are 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 18, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28. Hotwax claims on the packaging that there are 20 unreleased tracks but there are only 19 by my count. A blogger agrees with me and says only 19 tracks are previously unreleased so it is most likely an error on Hotwax's part.

Each CD comes with a foldout booklet containing an essay, lyrics, and a list of Hotwax CDs.

Although half the tracks on each CD are available on other Hotwax CDs, there's plenty of previously unreleased material contained on these new CDs. For example, have you been wanting more tracks from Sex And Fury? This new Reiko Ike CD has 4 previously unreleased tracks from Sex And Fury.
