Roaring Fire finally. Excellent.
This is a seriously great (and expensive) Toei year. And I wouldn't be surprised if the original Abashiri dvds would be low priced in December. I hope my guess is right, as I've been holding off from buying them so far. I don't think October dvds were mentioned yet. Toei has announced they will release Sadao Nakajima's classic Okinawa Yakuza War on DVD on December 5. This is a brutal yakuza film with a fantastic score from Kenjiro Hirose. Tomoyasu Hotei's Battle Without Honor Or Humanity (best known for being used in Kill Bill) is a rip off of Okinawa Yakuza War's opening theme ("M2"). Yakuza fans have been waiting for this release for a long time. Toei's old VHS release was decent: 2.35:1 and the original trailer at the end of tape.

Does anyone have Toei's Blossoming Night Dreams and could post a couple of caps? I only bought Tokyo Drifters and Ballad of Yokohama Hoods (damn kick ass) and those transfers were about the same quality as Exploitation Digital's Blossoming Night Dreams. Toei's Sukeban dvds however had notably better transfers.

Thanks and damn, those do look better. I don't have my R1 at hand right now but I'm recalling it being softer and more reddish.

2½ half for me (how come it takes 10 days for air mail to arrive... it's meant to be Air Mail. It takes 9 hours to fly to Japan. 10 back. I bet the customs officials watch all my Norifumi Suzuki dvds before forwarding them to my mailbox).

Toei's transfer would surely be superior, but at this point getting the films on dvd matters more than A-grade image... That'll probably be good enough for me as well and is certainly great news. Getting the films on DVD isn't quite enough for me, however. I also want them to be at least uncut and feature the original Japanese audio. Otherwise I would have been all set with the German bootleg disc: ![]() It was mastered from an old German theatrical print, though, and as such is German dubbed only and missing some of the more grisly scenes, especially of the infamous "birth" scene. |

Upcoming Toei January (Teruo Ishii month) Don't forget another G-Men '75 box set will be released in January: http://www.toei-video.co.jp/gmen/index.html Confusingly titled G MEN '75 DVD-COLLECTION I, it will actually be the 4th G-Men '75 box set. This long running series traveled the globe and this is what made the show great. If you are a Hong Kong film fan, the show is a must see because the Hong Kong episodes featured your favorite "b-movie" kung fu stars (Bolo Yeung, Bruce Li, Bruce Liang, Lee Hoi San, etc). ![]() ![]() ![]() Bolo gonna kick some ass ![]() Yasuaki teaches Bolo why he shouldn't mess with the G-Men ![]() The screenshots are from episodes 175 and 176 ("Hong Kong Karate Vs G-Men") from G-Men '75 Best Select Box. The box set also has episodes filmed in Paris, a Mr Boo-related episode, two Yasuaki Kurata interviews, two Go Wakabayashi interviews, a reprint of the script for the 1st episode of G-Men '75, and a booklet. Yasuaki Kurata interview from G-Men '75 Best Select Box ![]() Back to G MEN '75 DVD-COLLECTION I... G-Men '75 like Playgirl and Tokusou Saizensen has too many episodes (300+ 1 hour shows) for it to be feasible for Toei to release all the episodes so Toei has released "best of" box sets in the past. For the 4th box set, Toei asked the fans to vote for their top 40 episodes which would then be released on DVD. This is similar to what they did with Hibari's films and the Tokusou Saizensen TV series. Well, the fans have voted and Toei has listened: G MEN '75 DVD-COLLECTION I will contain 16 of the top 40 episodes including: -Episode 20 directed by Kinji Fukasaku (voted as the best episode by fans) -6 more Hong Kong episodes (episodes 126, 127, 267, 268, 319, 320) This is going to be the best G-Men '75 box set released to date. You can watch the original previews for all 16 episodes on Toei's website: http://www.toei-video.co.jp/gmen/index.html LINKS The best G-Men '75 website: http://homepage2.nifty.com/g75/ The official websites for 2 of the 3 previous box sets: http://www.toei-video.co.jp/DVD/sp21/gmen75bsb.html http://www.toei-video.co.jp/DVD/sp21/gmen75g.html February Girl Boss Guerilla (Sukeban Guerilla) (女番長ゲリラ) (1972) Girl Boss: Revenge (Sukeban) (女番長) (1973) Girl Boss: Escape From Reform School (Sukeban: Kankain dasso) (女番長 感化院脱走) (1973) Girl Boss: Diamond Showdown (Sukeban – Taiman shobu) 女番長 タイマン勝負 (1974) Girl Boss: Crazy Ball Game (Sukeban: Kyoku totsuki asobi) (女番長 玉突き遊び) (1974) If you can't wait for Toei to upload the original trailers, you can watch the first three minutes of each film on Toei's adult broadband website: http://www.otona-eiga.jp/list_6.php To watch clips: 1) You need Windows Media Player 9 or above. 2) Click on trailer button (left button underneath poster art) ![]() 3) Acquire license to watch. User ID is "toei" and password is "toei1". Both fields should be pre-filled. Click the button. ![]() 4) Click the button. ![]() 5) Wait a couple seconds for the PLAY button to be activated. Then click on the PLAY button. ![]() Toei's other broadband websites: Toei Films http://www.movie-circus.jp/ Toei TV Series (Tokusatsu only) http://www.tokusatsu.jp/ Toei removed the trailers from Movie Circus a while ago but there are sample clips on tokusatsu.jp. It works just like otona-eiga.jp: For example, Toei's classic tokusatsu series Inazuman http://www.tokusatsu.jp/series/inazuman/index.php ![]() Here are a few other Toei tokusatsu series with sample clips: Battle Fever J http://www.tokusatsu.jp/series/battlefever/index.php Kamen Rider Blade http://www.tokusatsu.jp/series/rider-blade/index.php Moero!! Robokon http://www.tokusatsu.jp/series/moero_robokon/index.php Also coming in February is Kage No Gundan 2 - Volume 2 containing episodes 14-26: http://www.toei-video.co.jp/DVD/sp21/kagenogundan2.html http://adg.invisionzone.com/index.php?show...t=4&start=4 |

It's getting a real bad habit... got the Set today. only the IMPORTANT one - the yet elsewhere unreleased Zankoku Ijo Gyakutai Monogatari Genroku Jokeizu - looks good (thankfully). the other two are lousy NTSC-PAL Transfers! all DVDs come with a small reproduction of the Original Japanese Poster. Extras consist of the Original Japanese Trailer. some Shots from the important one: ![]() |
