Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but DVD Times suggest a 93m run time for the DVD. I sincerely hope that's a press release error because it should be 111m(!) unsure.gif

What's this about the Spanish DVD having cuts?!! ohmy.gif

Very disappointed I shelled out a lot to get that one when I could've got a VCD or LD instead huh.gif

I am pretty sure the Spanish disc is uncut... certainly no obvious cuts (it's the only version I've seen though) What's the running time?

I can't believe this is finally coming out on R1. Hopefully this will be uncut!! Never got around to this disc because the import was really expensive (at least at the time I checked). Well.. if it's cut then mad.gif

If the Spanish DVD is PAL it should be approx 105/106m.

The only version I currently have is taped from UK TV and it's uncut.

hey,

Swedish scanbox disc (16:9, Cantonese Dolby Surround) runs 106m 15s PAL. Is missing the brief dialogue the Spanish does. English credits.

Phew rolleyes.gif

Dug out my Spanish disc and the running time is 106.16 smile.gif

This'll still be the disc of choice if the R1 is shorter.

I think Ken is saying that BOTH the SWD and SPN editions are cut. Is that right?

There's no point me checking my tape until I know what I'm looking for...?

Ahhhh. Oohhhh!. Oh, I see sad.gif

smile.gif ...maybe you're right, I'm not sure exactly what Ken means. Likewise, I have no idea what was cut. Maybe it's just a different print and not a cut as such.

Kenneth? smile.gif

hey,

chen lung informed me a while back that an exchange between Michael Wong and a gwailo is cut by a single line of dialogue. It's not much but it's not there. wink.gif

From chen lung himself:

QUOTE
Cut: The scene at the end when Michael Wong turns around smirking after Cougar says "Damn You". The Thakral/Mei Ah sources should have this uncut.

Ahhh thanks. I'd actually feel better if Michael Wong was cut out of the movie totally so no biggie. It's a touch of the missing arse in Operation Condor. Tiny snip to change the tone of the scene/film?

Is that all? Blimey. I was worried there. Can't say I'd give up an anamorphic DVD for a brief shot of Michael Wong smirking. lol If I remember I'll see if it's on my tape. If not then it's presumably something missing from all International prints.

Ah, I'm famous tongue.gif! lol

Yeah, although it's no dialogue, just the 'turn around and smirk' that's missing, BTW, I don't find Michael Wong annoying, quite like his movies (Don't ban me laugh.gif )! The fact that it may have English credits is a little off putting for purists. I thought Miramax owed the US distribution rights unsure.gif .

Recommendations for a good release:

1) Uncut version with full ratio progressive anamorphic video for film-based features - no PAL>NTSC.
2) Original-language audio mix before other soundtracks (that includes other languages or remixes) - ensure no downmixes.
3) Re-do the layout and translation of subtitles by using native speakers/subtitlists covering all features - ensuring good grammar and understanding with no simplification in translation.
4) Integrate Seamless Branching for alternative versions if possible (including credit sequences - inclusion of export English version would be good).
5) Include extras if possible.
6) Communicate with fans/experts (here on the forums) in advance of the release - ensuring excellent versions with minimal errors.

It's possible that this disc may be uncut. New Line does own the rights to Thunderbolt. In fact, it's been on heavy rotation on TNT and HBO recently.

I'm assuming that it may be uncut because I've seen the shorter, English-dubbed New Line version and it would be difficult to have the original Cantonese track on a cut version. There would be screw-ups with the music and dialogue.

On the positive side, the English dub does retain the original music and sound effects. I know that sounds contradicting to what I just said, but whatever... laugh.gif

Well, Mark, there is a chance that the movie is uncut. I've only gotten to see the version shown on TNT, and there's a chance that they cut scenes for time...

We'll have to wait and see.

(Edited Post)

Hey everyone,

just came across Thunderbolt on the Warner Home Video website.

Here is the Link:

Ages ago, I remember writing a letter to New Line Home Video president asking them to release this movie with the original cantonese audio and uncut, perhaps that letter has been answered, (but not the runtime, since the previous posters and my HK LD of Thunderbolt lists the runtime as 106). We'll have to see at the end of January.
