I kept checking with suppliers like hkflix and Sensasian back in December, and they were telling me that more Celestial releases were coming in 2008, but I guess the whole 5 year remaster process was for real, huh?
How many Shaw movies were there and how many did the end up remastering? 700 something? |

Yes, Celestial is done remastering because the demand for the remaining films isn't strong enough to pay for the remastering costs. The market for "old" films in Hong Kong has been completely dead for the last 3-4 years so no one should be surprised that they would stop the releases. There also won't be any more Blu-ray releases in the immediate future.

Ok, thanks, muldoon.
Are there any titles other than To Kill A Mastermind that we're really missing out in the kung fu category? Man, I wish these were all going to blu-ray... |

I counted just under 600. If it's said that there are 700 something, then there's some kung fu missing there, but man, I've gotten to see some flicks that I otherwise would have never seen because of this remastering process. Too bad there wasn't a correct PAL to NTSC conversion, otherwise, they're nice quality- better than the stuff that Fortune Star has been remastering, on the whole.
The remastering process over there still can't touch what american studios can do. I thought that DMII and Iron Monkey, although axed, looked better than I've ever seen them. |
